<p>Challenges in PR: "It's now turned a little bit more into pay to play - no surprise really, a lot of the publishers and the trade press have had to recoup a lot of costs and they've moved down to a pay-to-play. So it's a lot harder to get earned, you have to work a lot harder. That's one part. <p>"I'd say [the challenges in strategic marketing is] making tech sexy because a lot of the time it's very engineer based. It's not something that everyone's gonna understand and making it exciting and making people understand, truly understand what it's about. So you know creating visuals that people understand are usually very key. The challenges we face are definitely with gaining acceptance by the general public because the things we're doing are brand new, you know, and everyone's always scared of something new. So I'd say public acceptance is one thing and also, you know, when we're talking about legislation and policies and all these things, we actually need to be part of the conversation to push the right policies forward to make these things applicable and possible. So a lot of the PR strategy actually goes into lobbying as well, because we need to lobby with the right people with governments, with agencies, the policymakers to actually push these ideas. <p>"I think one of the most common things [challenges] that brands tend to underestimate is how diverse Asia is. You know, a lot of them fall into the trap of treating each country within the region to be the same rather than considering the vast cultural differences between each of them and how these markets or media actually operate. ... I guess for brands you know in order for them to get anywhere within this region they need to address local issues, they need to showcase local stories or case studies, or even proof points. So, you know, working partnerships with huge global brands are very important but there has to be a localized element to it to the PR or even to marketing activity for it to actually resonate with people within Asia. <p>"I think the biggest challenge is that when people invest in a startup and they start a business, they put their hopes into it, their dreams into it and usually they're founding a startup because they want to do something very very different that's not done before. So it's usually fresh, innovative, a really exciting space. But the problem is that that's generally not what journalists are paying attention to and journalists generally pay attention to big brands because big brands have market power, they have a consistency of presence and they have an established reputation and fundamentally that's what journalists want to write about, they want to write about people that had a real influence on the world. And startups don't have that.
