AliancePresse reports that the French and German publishers create a new collective management company to jointly negotiate, collect and distribute the neighbouring right created by the Copyright Directive.
"A year ago, France was the first country to transpose the 2019 European Copyright Directive with the law of 24 July 2019. It grants press publishers a specific right to take over their publications through digital platforms. The challenge of this new right is to ensure compensation on the part of platforms for their use of press publications, so that the value created online is fairly shared with publishers.

In order to ensure the effectiveness of this right in Europe and to create a one-stop shop for platforms for their use of the online press, the General Information Press Alliance and VG Media are jointly creating this new collective management company. This structure will be open to all European press publishers.

About the General Information Press Alliance: The Alliance represents 300 political and general news newspapers. She works with press players in France to address the challenges facing press publishers such as industrial issues and the digital transition.

About VG Media: The Berlin-based licensing company consists of 222 rights-holding companies in the television, radio and press publishing industry, including the broadcasting group ProSiebenSat.1 and publisher Axel Springer. It has been applying the rights of press publishers in Germany since 2014."
